Johnson , Volstad, and Sanchez Combine For 2.70 ERA In Series VS San Diego

The Marlins have let another phenomenal pitching series slip right out from under them as they couldn't produce the runs needed to get the wins for their staff. The Marlins have now dropped 4 consecutive games for the 3rd time this season. Our record is now well below .500, it is 5 games below to be exact. The debate surrounding the who will be the new Marlins skipper has not been settled either leaving the team in a state of "winless" confusion.

The Marlins bats and the failure to produce runs in needed times is leaving fans and players frustrated. We know the team is better than what they are currently showing but the solution is just not clearly apparent. The team seems like its passion is slipping away from them and there doesn't seem to be a strong sense of unity right now amongst players. Its not that there are specific problems between teammates. Its just that in a time of organized confusion with Fredi Gonzalez being let go and the NL East standings changing almost daily you would think the team would be rallying for no one else but themselves to show that they can play at a high caliber even in down times. Instead it has been the exact opposite, despite the pitching staff stepping up and coming through over the past few days the team hasn't seemed to have much zest, or at least they aren't showing it.

Marlins Get Ready To Rumble in Puerto Rico

The Florida Marlins begin a series vs the NY Mets today in Puerto Rico. The series is taking place at Hiram Bithron Stadium. MLB is trying to use the series as a way to promote baseball on the island and to extend the reach of the league. The series in Puerto Rico poses no advantage to either side and will offer a neutral ground for competition. The NY Mets are extremely hot right now sitting just outside of first place in the NL East. The Mets are 43-32 and the Marlins are 35-40 coming in to the series.

The Marlins have also made clear that Rodriguez will be a top consideration as well for the full time position.

Josh Johnson Gets Nasty With it...

Josh Johnson is pitching lights out baseball again this year, he is 8 -2 with a 1.80 era. Johnson just came off a great win against the Tampa Bay Rays one of the hottest teams in baseball. He threw 8 innings with 9 strikeouts giving up only 1 earned run. In the last 30 innings of work JJ has given up only 3 earned runs.

Johnson has struck out 98 batters in 100 innings of work, or .98 batters per inning. Johnson's has averaged .89 strikeouts per inning throughout his career, which out him above average this year.

If Johnson gets his strikeout count above 1.o per inning you could see him easily grab another 10 victories ending the season right near 20 wins. If his stats are evident of what he will do all season this will be a great year for JJ.

Stanton Goes 3 for 5 in Big League Debut; Fish Fall in Philly

Mike Stanton went 3 for 5 in his big league debut Tuesday. Stanton and the Marlins took on the Phillies in Philadelphia and the much hyped prospect had a good showing. Stanton started off with a single in the 2nd that came on a weak hit ball to the shortstop who was slow reaching the ball. Stanton beat the throw showing better than average speed in his first at bat. Stanton had 2 more singles in the game and his last one came in the 9th inning and loaded the bases for the Marlins.

Stanton had 2 impressive plays in the outfield where he held 2 runners from turning solid base hits into doubles. He showed an impressive arm on his throws to second base, on the money, with good velocity and no hop. We will find out quickly what he will look like in the show as he is a physical specimen of athleticism and is certain to show his true worth very soon.

Unfortunately the Marlins failed to rally in the 9th and they lost their 4th game of the season.

Mike Stanton Has Been Called Up

Mike Stanton has officially left Jacksonville and is in South Florida. He is getting ready for his first major league debut on Tuesday in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Stanton has 21 home runs and has driven in 52 runs in 52 game this season so far in the minor leagues. The only other minor league player garnering more attention has been fast ball hurler Stephen Strasburg.

Stanton will most likely play right field for the fish when he gets in tomorrow and The Marlins are looking for some immediate impact out of the player as Fredie Gonzalez has been tweaking the line-up lately trying to get the best mix possible. Right now we are still unsure of where exactly he will fall in the line-up. It really depends on where Gonzalez puts Hanley Ramirez, as Stanton could hit 6 or 7th, but if Hanley hits 3rd, Stanton may hit 2nd.

Tuesdays game should be heavily watched as the debut of Mike Stanton will hopefully prove to be a great addition to the Marlins club.

Fish Drop 3 In A Row in New York

The Marlins have dropped three games to the Mets at Citi field on Friday,Saturday and Sunday. Friday's game was close and ended 4-3, but the Marlins just didn't have enough that night to get them the win. Saturday's game was not very close at all, in fact it was 6-0 until the 7th when Paulino singled and scored Dan Uggla on the play. This was the only run the Marlins picked up and the game ended 6-1. On Sunday the Mets scored in the 9th inning which gave them enough to get the win.

Fish Sit Close to Philly But Atlanta On A Streak

The Marlins have turned around what seemed last week to be a horrible home-stand. They started the homestand with 10 games and 6 games into it they were 2-4. Now we are 5-5 in our past 10 games and sitting just a 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the #2 spot int he NL East. The Florida Marlins sit 4.5 games out of first place which is now held by the "Hot-lanta Braves".

The Atlanta Braves are on a 9 game winning streak and they are pulling away from the pack. It is time for the Marlins to hit their hot streak and the next 10 games we need to go 7-3 or 8-2 to have a chance to keep ourselves in contention for 1st coming into the mid-way point here at the end of June. Josh Johnson pitched well for the Marlins in their victory over the Brewers yesterday, but we need a couple more victories from the NY Mets who we begin a series with today.

Anibal Sanchez is set to throw for the Marlins today and the Mets R. A. Dickey taking the mound at Citi field. If we can get Coughlin back into form and keep Hanley and Uggla hitting well, then we can concentrate on the rest of the lineup producing and giving our pitchers some run support.

Game time today is 7:10 pm Citi Field.
