Frustration: Marlins Still 6 1/2 Games Out of Wild Card

The Marlins are not helping their chances of getting the wild card let alone the division title. Yesterday they were beat 10-5 by Atlanta at home. They now sit 6 1/2 games out of the wild card spot. Yesterday's loss is just further evidence that the Braves are the real deal this year and the Marlins are not. As much as it pains us to make that comment, its the truth. The fish just aren't playing well at all, there is no consistency .

The only shining spot continues to be Johnson who has been screwed out of wins left and right this year. His league leading E.R.A. is completely useless because the Marlins can't put together a 5 game win streak, or 4 games for that matter. In the next two weeks or so if the Marlins do not go on a serious win streak we will already know that we are out of the wild card running in mid-august. Let's hope we can pick it back up today, game time is 1:00pm.

Marlins Get Blown Out The Water

The Fish got handled Tuesday, one night after an exciting walk off home-run from Donny Murphy. The Marlins saw 6 runs get tacked on against them in the 3rd inning of Tuesday's game. Nate Robertson hit Dexter Fowler with the bases loaded to start off the 6 run streak by the Rockies. By the end of the evening the Rockies had piled on 10 runs and the Marlins had 0.

It seems like the story of the fish this year is one game up, one game down. Two games up, two games down. There has been no consistency this season with winning ball games. One night we look great, the next we look horrible. One night we look mediocre, the next night we just squeak by. The Marlins need to get a hold of the reigns and step up their game very soon or this year could go down the drain very fast.

Donny Murphy Wins Game For Marlins In 9th

Donny Murphy hit a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning Monday night to beat the Rockies 9-8. It was a pinch hit homerun for Murphy. It was one of the most exciting Marlin victories that we have seen in quite some time. The game was back and forth all night. Mike Stanton hit a 3 run homerun off Ubaldo Jiminez early in the night and he went 3 for 4 on the evening.

Marlins Have Good Pitching Series Against Nationals, Take 2 of 3 Games

The Marlins had a good showing this weekend with the pitching squad. The Squad gave up only 4 runs the whole weekend, all of which came Friday night in just two separate innings. The Marlins took 2 out of 3 games in the series.

Nolasco was credited for the loss Friday but still pitched 6 great innings of baseball besting Strasburg with 9 strikeouts to Strasburg's 7.

Josh Johnson pitched another shutout performace in 6 innings of work and picked up his 10th win of the year Saturday. Johnson lowered his league best ERA to 1.62 after the night's performance. Alex Sanabia picked up his first win for the Marlins Sunday in his second performance of the season. He pitched a shut out performance for 5 1/3 innings and struck out 5 batters.

If the Marlins could keep their pitching consistent and limit their opponents to just a few runs, we could easily turn the corner and put on 20 wins in the next 30 games. Going on a nice streak of wins could catapult us right into wild card territory or near the top of our division before September.

Tonight Anibal Sanchez is taking on Ubaldo "Lights Out" Jiminez. Jiminez is tearing up the league this year with a 15-1 record coming into tonight's game. The Fish will need to watch what they swing at and be ready to protect the corners of the plate.

Strasburg Comes to Town

Stepehn Strasburg has arrived in Miami and Friday night looks to be an exciting evening. Obviously we want the Fish to win at all costs, but it wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings if Strasburg struck out 13 and we still won. Strasburg is the most talked about prospect currently in the MLB even though Ubaldo Jiminez has been absolutely ridiculous this year, at 15-1 on the season. The speed of Strasburg's fastball is what continues to propel his popularity to stardom.

His numbers are:

Record 3-2
Innings Pitched: 42 2/3
Strikeouts Per 9 Innings: 12.8
Walks Per 9 Innings: 2.3
Hits Per 9 Innings: 6.7

Hanley Ramirez Blasts 26 Homeruns In HR Derby 2010

Hanley Ramirez had an exceptional performance last night in the HR derby. He hit 26 home runs total last night and came in second only bested by the winner David 'Big Papi' Oritz who hit 31. Round one saw Hanley hit 9 home runs, two of them were gold balls which were used to raise money for charity. The second round saw Ramirez blast out 12 home runs. At one point he hit 4 home runs in a row. The last round Hanley hit 5 home runs, unfortunately Big Papi hit 10 home runs in the final round and took the crown.

Good representing for the home town team Hanley, great job.

Marlins Continue To Slip In NL EAST, Johnson Throws Tonight Against LA

The Fish continue to fall farther from the top spot in the NL East with a 39-44 record coming in the the final days before the All-Star break. The Marlins have had a rough year so far and have been far from consistent to say the least. The only shining spot in the pitching rotation continues to be the work horse stud, Josh Johnson.

Johnson has a 1.82 era which puts him at the top with the best that MLB has to offer. While his record of 8-3 could be even better if he had more run support, he has still performed exceptionally well this season. Tonight he takes on LA and we are expecting another stellar performance from our ace.

Volstad Sent Down After Loss To Dodgers

Chris Volstad is 4-8 on the year and has not been nearly as impressive as he was a few years back. The Marlins decided Tuesday that Volstad should be sent down to the minors for some re-tweaking. Volstad has a 13-21 record over the past two season which just isn't good enough to keep you in the big show. In Volstad's place the Marlins called up Burke Badenhop from New Orleans.
